Can Peter Hirschberg add a accelerometer feature for firing? Say a quick tilt forward to fire the cannon instead of releasing my thumbs just to fire.

This game is seriously addictive. The graphics and animation are fantastic. I hope the developer considers porting versions of other vector games to the iPhone. He has done a seriously terrific job and it is in many ways better than the original. I love it. Definitely worth the price!

I plan to buy Vector tanks later today just based on this review. Now I hope they will do ikari warriors and armor Alley.

Excellent software, intuitive controls. More fun than the original I dare say.

Constructive criticism:

1) The game does not ratchet up in difficulty. Multiple tanks on-screen at once would be great.

2) Save feature would be excellent

3) Multi-player wifi version would also be great!

Aside from that, its damn near perfect. Now do Vector Wars! (Star Wars)

TKO: Stellar 7 was a superb game. I spent hours playing it in 1984 on my Apple //c. Retro Gamer magazine has heavily covered it lately.

Play Damon's original Apple II version of Stellar 7 on Virtual Apple II website:

For those who need a lite version and haven't played the game before, perhaps a version limited to 4-5 min of game play. Maybe the game stops somewhere randomly between 4-5 min. Sure they could get out then back in and repeat, but it would give the person enough time to get a taste and just enough(not too much!) frustration if they were getting into it.

I 2nd "Vector Wars" mentioned above as a great name for a S.Wars clone.
Instead of the Deathstar, have some other main target/targets.

Thx Peter!

@rich_952000 I was very much into the 8-bit computers of the day when Battlezone was in the arcades and IMHO there was never an official battlezone port that came close to capturing the beauty of the original. (Unless there was a vectrex version ..I could imagine that being cool.) :)

What the computers of the day *did* have though was Stellar 7: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stellar_7 ..I had that on the Apple 2, Commodore 64, and Amiga. I'm guessing there was probably an Atari ST version too.

It was definitely the closest thing to Battle Zone way back then. Unfortunately the Amiga version decided to add "bosses" at the end of every level, and had that oversaturated colours look that the early 16-bit titles all had. The colours I could live with, but the bosses just broke the game for me.

The Activision Battlezone games were a great experience too. Thanks for reminding me of them Blake. I didn't like the RTS element they tried to add to the game though. I just wanted Tank combat. All this fluffing about with bio-metal mining and other base building should have been handled by the game in the background. (Great story in both games.)

@Vende Ok, opinion noted. Now stop whining and wait for a Lite version. For the record IMHO the game *is* as good as it looks, and well worth the three bucks.

Nope, I haven't played it. And I would like to play VT based on the early reviews and actual footage: I would just prefer a lite version to test it. I can't tell if I'd like it.

Something I've noticed from playing Vector Tanks is that I've started playing Crazy Tanks again as well to get my fix. Vector Tanks gives me the retro, destructive fix, while Crazy Tanks provides the more modern, graphical hit.
