Why isn't this update availiable for the iPod Touch 1st Gen? Safari has been very unstable since the 2.2 update.

I am curious to see if there are any hidden features included with this update. Or improvements to current features besides the ones listed. Apple has been know for making such minor changes without making it known. I am curious if Netshare still works? and if they are getting the iphone ready for tethering. This will be a whole different animal that will probably come with next major firmware update. Has this affected the jail breaking community?

Installing now. I must say this is the worst update yet with regards to features and giving people what they want. I was expecting something big this time as it seems like an age since the last one.

It's a signifficant update...I am glad the email pics are importing better.

X.X.X updates don't usually have new features, just fixes

We probably won't have ant new features untill 3.0 but I would get your hopes up on thinking they'll even be remotly close to what you really want to have your phone do without JBing.

okin: Yes there is a 2.2.1 for the ipod touch, it also includes this:
"Fixed issue that caused some Apple Lossless (ALAC) audio files to skip during playback."

I have MAJOR problems with the importing pix thing. not just my email also third party apps that take pix and add to my library like snappy. All the pix are all pixelatted with no fix. Can't wait to install this and fix em

Unfortunately for me this update did NOT fix the image saving bug on my 2nd gen iPod touch. If I save a large image from Safari or Mail it *still* saves the low resolution thumbnail version! I can't believe that the update states that it's fixed and yet it still isn't! VERY annoyed. How long can it possibly take them to fix this bug given that image saving WAS previously working!

bleh.. I was hoping for new stuff from every updates. This time round, it's still boring. I don't really have any problem with my 3G iphone. But, added new features and software is always welcome. I'm getting bored...

Updated to 2.2.1 but lost my ability to use wi fi.
My MacBook Pro uses my wi fi with no problems.

neo - I have the ipod touch 1st gen, and I have the same problem. Ever since the update I lost the ability to get on the interet via wifi.

Anyone know what the problem might be? I don't know how to go back to 2.2. I saw some people on other sites say they are going back, but I don't know how to do it.

I just downloaded and installed the new 2.2.1 and i recently jailbroke it! Its run perfectly. But Infortunely i have noticed any difference...

I just attempted to download 2.2.1 on a 1st gen Touch and it said it would delete all my music, videos and pics!! Really? The option of downloading to the computer was too confusing ... don't want to lose and/or redo all this. I cancelled it. Anyone know what that message meant? I've done an update or two before and it's been fine.

Oh, I tried again and it said to update the Touch on the computer I sync music and all that with ... except that computer's not working now.

I updated today and I can't add my newer songs to any playlists. I also heard many people were having other major problems like blackout screens.

WIFI problems here too. 1st gen ipod, after upgrade to 2.2.1 lost the ability to use WIFI. Also noticed the battery drains very quickly, even with the ipod turned off. Restored to v2.2 and did a "Reset All Settings" + "Reset Network Settings" and I'm still having WIFI and battery problems.

I have the exact problem w/ my 1st gen touch. No Wi-Fi. I just got the download and when it stopped it came up with an error. i thought i didn't install it but i did. and now i'm angry cause i use that wi fi like crazy. please i need a solution!

I've tried four times on four different days to install this update, and each time I get an error ("the network connection timed out") and a message to try again later. Looks like other are having the same problem. What's going on here?

At first, the Ipod update 2.2.1 bricked my IPOD 2nd Gen, then after restoring it again using a different PC, the Wifi doesn't work now. I cannot connect to any wifi networks. What gives?

I am having the same problem with network connection error, have disabled firewall and antivirus. I work as an IT Technician but this one is puzzling me.

Mine is the same ... "timed out" every time! And my iphone is crashing every day saying I need to Restore. But you can't restore, unless you download the new software, which I cannot do.

ok, so i updated my iphone and i keep getting server issues.

sometimes my email wont fetch because it says "not connected to the server"

and make safari run betteR? Seriously? Because since the upgrade I keep having spurts where i cant get on the internet because of server issues. At one point ic ouldnt use the internet, get to ap store or anything like that for 3 hours.

and downloading stuff from cydia via edge doesn't work either (just small software up to 100 kb) ... I always get the following error: "Source Error - POSIX: Connection reset by peer"

I have just purchased a new iPhone 3G 16 Gig. When i first got it I was able to connect to my home wifi... no problems. I updated to 2.2.1 and at some point after that, the issues with the wifi started.

To elaborate on issues with wifi:
I am unable to find any wifi networks at all. I can see the phone trying to scan for networks every 5 seconds or so but it finds nothing when i should be getting about 5 different networks including mine which i had been able to connect to a day or 2 ago.

This led me to believe that some hardware component had "fizzled" and there is nothing i could do. However, we spent the afternoon at a friend's house and to my surprise, i could connect to their wifi.... but only for about 10 or 15 minutes before that too died completely.

Later that evening whilst driving home, I was having a look at what my iPhone was doing and it was picking up all the wifi networks along the way... no problem. When I got back home, it is as if wifi doesn't exist again.

Hardware?
Software?
Firmware?

To me it seems to be a caching issue of some sort. I have restored the phone multiple times at multiple levels of restore but with no luck. The scary thing is that i have been reading up this issue on other forums and it seems to date back right from the launch of iPhone.

The bug is rather erratic and unpredictable and is something that apple should seriously consider having a good look at ASAP. Perhaps a heat issue with the IC chips. I have read that some people put their iPhones in a freezer for 5 minutes and then it worked again.

Is this really a solution?!? C'mon apple..... what are you guys going to do about this?

This is my first Mac product and I have had it for 2 weeks now. I have just upgraded to 2.2.1 and i have no access to all my apps except the ones that use WiFi. I have Wifi access but that is it. I want to go back to 2.2.

What is apple doing about this?!!??? Not a good first impression!!!!

I swapped out my iPhone yesterday for a brand new one and so far... its all back to normal... and I have upgraded the new phone to 2.2.1.

In my opinion it is something Apple needs to sort out... and fast!

Hey, by the way. I tried at apple today and it seems that the Airport there works fine with mine, it's so far the only one worked for my ipod.
I tried ZyXel and Dlink wireless router and none of the 2 worked.
Could it be the router chips they used that made the differences?

Dude .. idk if its only me OR the Version 2.2.1 Release! i am having WIFI Problems with my Ipod touch 1G.. My Wifi Disconnects after few seconds or the signal goes down.. using the same wireless router for my Laptop and dont have the wifi problem on pc.. but like i said its on my Ipod touch after installing the version 2.2.1 if its a general issue.. hoping it to get it fixed asap!

Reset the router. That's the only thing that worked (I spent hours with the one of the technicians, and this was his last idea)

Hi everyone! I have the first gen, and the same thing happend to me regarding the internet. If you go to settings and click on general...then scoll to the bottom, click on reset, then click on reset network...then go back and try to connect to the internet again, it should work

I read lots of blogs and threads and tried lots of things: it looks the update 2.2.1 upgrades so much that the routers are unable to cope with that. I tried upgrading my router and didn't work. I changed WEP to WAP security and did the trick. The edge sign is still there, but whatever. Let's wait till Apple says something about it. Lots of complaints like ours on the official page.

Googled and drilled, but nowhere do I see my issue.

After (likely) for 1st time ever using the shuffle feature (since new in 2005 for my click wheel 30 Gb '4th Gen' iPod), the darned thing refused to menu-back and escape shuffle.

I tried repeatedly using the hold switch, inserting the unti into the cradle, but the only thing that got it out of shuffle was to 'back-space' or bac-select' songs to song #1 and only then could I get to tne menu!!!!(fortunately I'd stopped shuffle playback at only 18 of my 4+thousand songs).

What next, experiencing some planned obsolescence OEM malware that self destructs the hard drive?

Janet save anything you have on your itouch/iphone to itunes library. Then update your itouch/iphone. After it has been updated sync your old stuff back onto your itouch/iphone
