@Plantane I know what you mean about "addicting"... I'm starting to develop a similar twitch whenever I read it as I do for "could care less"... *sigh*

Textropolis is a fun game, though. I general dislike word games because I'm really bad at them (I can't spell for a start) but the lack of penalty for guessing wrong is great.

Textropolis is a great game. Try it and see; it's impossible to explain why/how it's so addictive. Same with scoops (same developer I think.)

I play 'em like a crazed goon, until my wife steals my iphone :(

Seeing the praise here, I grabbed this game on my way out to work this morning, and it might become my favorite word game on my iPhone (of which I now own ten). Very highly polished, great look to it, and as much as part of me likes a time limit and a bit of pressure, it's nice to see someone doing something different.

What arn says about it "surprisingly" working is true. While there's no pressure to hurry and find words, knowing there's more, and seeing the cities grow (for whatever reason) compels me to keep looking.

Great game, and easily worth more than it sells for.

@Steve: I completely agree with you. I've actually started to try not to use the word "addictive" in my App Store reviews. To me, it just doesn't mean anything anymore. Further, I am often reluctant to purchase a word game that is described as "addicting" in the description. I once saw it being used in a screen shot... Surely, in reality, it would not have been accepted. Oh well... Pet peeve.

On topic, Textropolis is an excellent game. Congrats and thanks, Ian.

This is a great game. It's a nice way to kill a few minutes while waiting for people to show up for appointments, etc. It's totally worth the $2.

This isn't a comment on this game persay but on the descriptions of games for the iPhone in general.

I'm hearing "addictive" used to describe nearly every iPhone application both by the developer in their description and user in their reviews. I think we need a new word because addictive has lost its impact.

Going further, if a game were truly addictive I wouldn't need to abandon it for the latest new .99c app a week later. :p

I think games by their nature have some sort of hook that keeps you wanting to come back. However, in my opinion a truly addictive game only comes along every so often. On the iPhone I've only found a handful.

I propose a few perfectly cromulent words for describing games as follows:

compelled
fanatical
devoted
fiendish
insatiable
enthusiastic
maniacal
