iPhone Flyer 'Flight Stunts' Hits the App Store

posted by Blake Patterson on January 25th, 2009 4:08 PM EST in $2.99, Action, iPhone games, iPod touch games

Makayama Media's iPhone flyer Flight Stunts [link] has made its App Store debut.  The comment thread on our preview of the game showed real interest in this title from our readers.

Flight Stunts challenges players to complete 20 demanding missions such as maneuvering an Airbus A319 under the Golden Gate Bridge, dropping a paratrooper in the Beijing Olympic Stadium, and dogfighting over the Pacific and Moscow.  The developer indicates that, while the popular X-Plane 9 is about instrument panels and weather conditions, Flight Stunts is all about fun and action.

We've not spent much time with this title but can say that the game uses dramtically simplified renditions of the various geographic regions featured within.  This may not be a particular negative as Flight Stunts is not an attempt at a fully accurate flight simulation.

Unfortunately, reaction from early adopters have been rather negative:

YUCK!!! Needs work! Needs tilt reset, and maybe a way to pause or quit? – doctorded

I agree with you. Also there is collision problems with the graphics and at some points has choppy animation. hopefully an update will correct all the problems in processing and reset the tilt. – radchad1

See the ongoing forum below. The response has not been so favorable. The quality of the graphics of the still portrait image above is not what you get in the landscape oriented game.

  • The video demonstrates the gameplay action. I think there may be some collision detection issues the more time I spend with it.

  • Nick says:

It's a shame, but this is one of the worst titles I ever bought on the AppStore.

I reallly like it, it's a fun game te play. Maybe they set expectations too high with the hi-res graphics, but what do you expect, it's a phone after all. The game is a fresh breath of air, it's more engaging than the other flyers I've seen.

Probably THE worst iPhone Flight Sim I've played.

Collision detection is horrible and if you pass a few levels and crash, guess who gets to start ALL over again.

Fix that, and the graphics and I MIGHT pick it up again.

Give me a break! The screenshots in the AppStore are not from the game. They must be from 3D Studio…pre-rendered. The game looks like crap in comparison. As far as "What do you expect from an iPhone app"…I expect honest advertising! Faking screen shots is a scam. They should be forced to change them or booted from the store. This is a blatant rip-off.

    @schplurg @james I couldn't agree more. This game is a total scam.

@CoolGamer230 You should save your dollars.

  • JKT says:

So the App Store is keeping out apps who use the word "boob" in their descriptions, but is allowing scam artists to submit faked screenshots?? Methinks the managers of the App Store have their "morals" way the heck out of whack.

  • M.W. says:

It could be good except for the fact it is plagued with bugs.
