Hi

Just wanted to add a little balance to things here. I have never used 'real' flight sim software much before, but really like the X-Plane offerings and am more than happy with the pricing/distribution model. It allows me to choose what aspects of sim I want to play with, and pay for it accordingly.

Now a suggestion: I strongly agree with someone who posted earlier, WW2 fighter planes would be very cool to fly! Another interesting addition to the apps would be (suitably scaled) fuel limitations.

Cheers!

I've only payed this a little bit so far, but I'm loving it. It's much, much more challenging than flying the planes. I still wish they'd add this map to the original X-Plane though.

Overall, I'm impressed with this. I just need to really figure out how to fly a helicopter now.

Really? are you people actually complaining about this? The man's found a way to put A FLIGHT SIMULATOR on a PHONE!! hello, this usually requires a computer to do!! Seriously from what Austin's wrote its obvious he's working on it...Boo hoo if you have to have 3 *gasp* apps on your iphone...he's already explained it benefits the performance. Not only that the point of a flight simulator is not objectives its about learning how the aircraft behaves and performs and getting a sense of how to control it properly....I'm sure half of the people wanting guns and missiles cant even land it on the runway right....and seriously hes promised updates to the originaL! maybe you guys should back off a bit I realise that your'e just trying to add input so he can improve it but getting angry and boycotting his product isnt the way to go. anyway Austing good job on these they're pretty much amazing and for the rest of you guys dont get your pantys in a bunch over it just yet.....

@Tom Ross: Aren't all cars made of the same components too? wheels, tires, seats, glass, metal, etc? So tell me how some are sold for $17k and others are sold for $200k. So fine, all the different X-Plane mini-apps for iPhone don't provide the same functionality, but for the same cumulative price, as the desktop version.

Personally, I don't care, maybe you do, and that's fine. iPhone development is a totally different market than developing for a desktop these days. It's only logical that you would end up paying a premium "rate" for an app(s) that's written for this upscale product and fast paced market.

Secondly, I for one think Apple should get rid of the $Free price point. I'm sick of hearing people complaining about apps (justified or not) and saying the app and/or update should have been free. If you think working for free is so noble, then call your boss up and tell him to stop giving you a paycheck each month.

Lastly, I too would like to see the original X-Plane for iPhone pick up a few of the features now seen in the ancillary X-plane apps, but I for one still think I got my money's worth when I paid $10 for the original.

Merry Christmas!!

As close as a desktop sim can be to real training, the iphone version, cannot be. There are no cockpits, real world locations, traffic, atc, mixture/prop controls. It is a very lite version of the desktop version. So to compare it to your terrific desktop program is not the best idea.
Yes it is a very good looking program for the iPhone, but it just that - a program for the iphone. So this talk of the whole thing in packages adding up to the same price as the desktop version is concerning.

Maybe you are unfamiliar with iPhone apps and games, but all those ported or re-built for the iphone from the computer versions are also scaled down, but are also COMPLETE and priced around the $10 mark for the whole thing.

This can and will never be a training aid or anything else. The detail is just not there. Hopefully people play this and get a sense of what flying can be like and go from there!

And yes, I bought your program when it first came out, and yes, I was defiantly under the impression that it would be updated with more planes and maps.

When someone asks "can you add jet planes and features?",
you answering "yes, we have many exciting updates in the works",
but meaning "yes, but they will be seperate and you must pay for a whle new program" its just plaain deceptive. not cool dude.

Mr. Meyer, I have none of your products, yet, I have however been following these posts and I'll just say; your response above is exactly what i've been thinking, good job. I will now download Airliner so I can see what this X-plane hype is about. What none of these people see is that they can pick and choose what installments piqué their paticular likes and save $$$ on any area that they don't have a particular interest in. Thanks I'll let ya know how things turn out for me with X-plane Airliner.

"I am not gonna get this and I fear that we won’t see any x-plane upgrades."
"We didn’t expect to have our version essentially abandoned"

GOOD GAWD!

You guys sound like Chicken Little!

FIRST of all, I only charged pocket-change for the initial app.. $9.99!
SECONDLY, there have ALREADY been about FOUR free updates!
THIRDLY, MORE free updates are STILL planned!!!!

So gimme a break and get a life! You don't get every single thing I can ever do in aviation for $9.99.. SORRY!

Yah, there will be MORE flavors.. and if you add 'em all up they should come to (SURPRISE!!!!) about $40 or $50, with the same TOTAL power and diversity as the DESKTOP sim which costs (SURPRISE!!!!) about $40 or $50!

There is nothing wrong with that price.. it is well-established!

With the iPhone, you just HAVE to get it in SMALLER PIECES because of interface and RAM limitations.

You don't get a $50 program for $9.99! I want you to have everything possible on the iphone.. but it WILL take a handful of SMALLER PIECES to make this happen.. each piece priced at a fraction of the $50 that a powerful, hi-quality program is worth! (but, when all the pieces are added up, they should add up to the desktop sim in power and price).

And no, i am not 'abandoning' x-plane standard.. The updates will continue! I have the NEXT two airplanes for it almost done now! No they won't be helicopters or airliners.. the interface in the standard X-Plane is NOT set up to handle those.

But they will be cool planes that fit within the niche of THAT program!
