MMORPG 'Parallel Kingdom' Set for October 31 Release

PerBlue recently updated their Parallel Kingdom Age of Exploration website, providing updated screenshots as well as a release date: October 31.

A recent blog post by PerBlue CEO Justin Beck tells the latest:

Today we have some exciting news. On October 31st, 2008 the Parallel Kingdom Age of Exploration will be released! This is the first of many ages to come. This age will be a free beta that will run on any iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android Handset device. Parallel Kingdom uses location-based features to place the virtual world over the real world, where you can kill creatures, collect gold, and destroy your friends. We hope you enjoy this age, and look forward to many ages to come.

Parallel Kingdom is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG)–or as PerBlue describes it, a mobile multiplayer trans-reality game (MMTRG)–that overlays the real world with a location-based game world, allowing the most humble neighborhood street to host the mightiest of towered citadels that must be breached for loot.  It holds the promise of turning the daily commute into a bold adventure and we expect it to be a hot download when it appears in the App Store.

More screenshots can be seen at the Parallel Kingdom website.

Stay tuned for more information on this title as well as a full review once it makes its debut in the App Store.

how does this work on ipod touches without a agps reciever
    esp. without wifi

  • blakespot says:

@mek: It uses cell tower + WiFi triangulation, like the Maps app does.

This is going to be amazing, after a couple of months because a lot of people are going to jump into this and people are going to be battling just about everywhere you go. I hope they spread this across as many platforms as they can because this could be the next big thing. They could do this in all games, imagine playing a game like GunBound (courtesy http://gunbound.ijji.com/) with the people near you instead of waiting around trying to get into lobbies.

I think this kind of game has some serious potential but I think this one looks really stupid. Just my opinion though.

  • Nagromme says:

Part of me hopes it succeeds, but another part of me can't help but enjoy visions of how it could all go comically awry.

This could be bad for me. I have a tendency to get threatened to be banned from online games for bad mouthing people. I'm not a bad sport, honestly, I just think it's funny.
The whole location based thing could make this really interesting, though.

That function NEVER works for me. I try to use it on Google Maps, and always get a message telling me it can't do it. Is it because I am in the UK?

  • Xelivo says:

  • Among the great number of Massive Online Multiplayer Games I prefer those with intuitive navigation, a comprehensive user interface, and a unique graphical player guide!!!
