Steampunk Puzzler 'Plank' Hits the App Store

posted by Blake Patterson on October 7th, 2008 7:18 AM EDT in $1.99, Puzzle, iPhone games, iPod touch games

Freeverse's steampunk-themed, accelerometer-controlled puzzle game Plank [App Store] has appeared as a $1.99 download in the App Store.  We posted a preview several days back.

Balance the marbles on the plank by tilting left and right and roll them to match falling marbles of the same color. Make lines of 3 or more to score points and remove the marbles. Clear the marbles quickly or the weight will be too much for the plank and it will explode.

Plank features three levels of difficulty (from "Normal" to "Nnnnaaaarghh!") and various power-ups, including the "Shake" smart bomb that knocks out a whole line of marbles.

    Hello everyone,
I bought the game last night, but am I the only one with this problem: the accelerator meter doesn't seem to work for this game… However I move the IPhone from side to side, nothing happens (the marbles just keep on falling…). I know that my device is working properly, I have over 35 games and 100 applications loaded on my IPhone…

    Thanks,
    Leprimate

There's a glitch that can randomly happen on startup that can cause the accelerometer to fail to start. Quitting and restarting should clear it and we've got a 1.1 update on the way with a fix for it.

I've heard that complaint before. There's seems to be a bug in the iPhone that does that randomly on some games. They'll probably fix it in the next update. It's probably not the games fault.

The game isn't starting up on my ipod touch, hoping it works after a reboot…

  • Aaron says:

Restarting your iPod/iPhone should clear up and startup issues, same as other apps.

  • just out of curiosity, but how long did it take to have the apple approval? seems to me the preview was shown only a few days ago…

  • Aaron says:

The NDA doesn't allow us to talk about the apple approval process, but we posted info on the preview some time after the process started trying to guess when the game would be out :)

The game crashes constantly. I cannot get it to play. I tried the advice listed on the iTunes store to turn the phone off and one again, ie, reboot, but even after that the game continues to crash back to the Springboard. Most of the time I can only get to the startup screen and the game crashes. Only once did I actually get into gameplay and then it crashed after 3 balls fells down. I hope the 1.1 update fixes this. Right now the game is unplayable. Is the game RAM intensive?
