'Block Breaker Deluxe 2' Drops to $1.99

Gameloft has surprisingly quickly dropped the price of Block Breaker Deluxe 2 [App Store] to $1.99 from its original price of $4.99.

Block Breaker Deluxe 2 was one of our favorite breakout games for the iPhone with plenty of action and gameplay.

Block Breaker Deluxe 2 takes the Arkanoid formula to the next level with a wide array of powerups and a cash system for purchasing paddle upgrades. Its onscreen action is more frantic than the typical brick breaker. Multiplayer support allows two people to compete on the same device.

It received our solid recommendation at $4.99 so at $1.99, it's a great deal.

    Maybe the lesson here is that devs should pick a price and stick to it. Whether they:

    a) Give the early-adopter a discount and raise the price later
    b) Drop the price to drive sales

    … someone is entitled to feel a bit hard done by.

    Or maybe the people who whine about prices should be kicked off toucharcade.

  • Brian says:

    i agree totally "Tkphotograph" if you don't think the price is right when it is released don't buy it!.

    People who moan after only have themselves to blame, if i had spent 6 months + developing a game i would want the most money i could get for it.

    I agree that dropping the prices when sales fall is good business sense, but it does not give confidence to consumers,

    consumers are more likely to wait now rather than get the app at full price.

    bj is a good example of this.

    My strategy is working. Unless it's a must have, I'm not buying it right away.

    Now I'll get this, I don't care if they drop it to 0.99 cents, I can swallow that pill easier than getting burnt by a lot more. They should follow the strategy on DVD sales, sell it cheap at first for the early adopters.

    @Ralph
    Yep, can't agree with you more.

    @Tkphotograph
    Agree, I should also vote to have other toucharcade users who whine about other people whining to be kicked off too.

    Glad I waited. I think I'll pick it up now.

    Also glad I 'waited'. I was quite keen initially, but held off (plenty of other free and / or cheap apps to keep me busy). It is sensational value at that price, I played it all night (Australia time) and was consequently about an hour for work today :) It really has an almost 'Japanese' style feel about it, kind of similar to Lumines. Compared to the general consensus, I LOVE the music.

    Regarding the whole price thing – this has kept me entertained for hours on end so far, for the cost of a game of pinball. Definitely something to consider and ponder as a benchmark for (a) future purchases and (b) for when I start developing some 'simple(ish)' games for the iPhone next year the sort of 'bonus' content and features.

    I think I've finally learned my lesson: never buy apps on launch day unless the developer is smart enough to do a launch-day special.

    It's nice to see prices starting to stabilize down around the $5 mark, too – hopefully as more games are launched, developers will be forced to keep prices lower … :)

  • Alex says:

    @mavis true, I just hope that we start to see different price brackets e.g.

    <= £3 for a small game (like Block Breaker Deluxe 2, Dizzy Bee, Trism)

    <= £9 for a bigger game (FF09, Asphalt 4, Spore)

    … These prices are peanuts compared to what you'd expect to pay for an A+ Nintendo DS game. I'd love to play some more substantial games – comparable to Advance Wars, Zelda, Mario Kart etc.

    ~~~ Anyone that thinks Cro-Mag and Crash Bandicoot are as good as Mario Kart *has never played Mario Kart* ~~~
    I just hope we iPhone owners don't shoot ourselves in the foot.
    If developers think that the market won't pay more than £10 this class of games will never appear.
  • Oliver says:
    I would pay more. Much more. But, there just aren't any real games out there which cost more – and offer more. Still waiting for something like AdvanceWars, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, Age of the Empires, Metroid Prime Pinball, Mega Man, Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros… 20 Euros would be my max (compared to 30-40 Euros, a DS game costs).
  • gonzalo says:
    this is a very good game and a very good price now, thanks for that.
  • Jon says:
    Its really a fun game. Now im glad I wated. At the price it is now its a steal for such a well made game.
    level 7 harbor seems impossible to me
