Was this title at $7.99 or something? I remember there was something from preventing me from buying this game, but now that I saw this article and the $1.99 pricetag, I decided to give it a go, and I'm glad I did. It's a fun game and does bring back some memories.

Well, the 4,99 for Chopper didn't bother me. It's a great game. What bothers me are games like BiiBall and many many others, which drop the price DAYS after the release and where the first buyers only get a beta with bad gameplay, which evolves during upcoming updates. That's where I feel ripped off. And that's why I'll wait a few weeks after buying stuff now. I'll put it on a list and check the list a month later. This of course eliminates impulse buyings, which is something, the AppStore is built on. Developers are destroying their own market.

Chopper developer here.

I think it is understandable that some people might feel a little annoyed, after all if you had known it was going to drop, you may have acted differently.

However, this is just a side effect of a very new market, with rapidly growing competition. Prices are getting driven down massively across the entire App Store as developers compete for a spot in the top 100. If you had told me two months ago that I would be doing this sale I would have called you a lier.

In the end, new apps will be coming in at much lower price points and staying there. So it's actually a really good thing for iPhone users. Perhaps not so good for developers though!

@SteveJ
In retail you have a price protection policy which, in some stores, can be as long as a month. It will hurt them in the long run because like me, I'll be waiting to buy apps that's not a "must-have".

I like this game and definitely think it's worth $1.99. I paid $4.99 and am happy with it at that price.

I don't get why people complain about price drops. Price drop aren't exactly anything new. It's happened in retail for forever. Heck, I just picked up the following console games for $5 each:

Wii:
 Godfather: Blackhand Edition
 Geometry Wars: Galaxies

360:
 Juiced 2
 Golden Compass
 Project Sylpheed
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

$5 each. Yep. With the AppStore it's a lot easier to see games go on clearance, and it happens sooner. Why complain?

I bought this a few days when it came out, it's alright, it's not that great. Although I'm gonna say that this is the nail in the coffin. Devs if you guys are listening, you should award us early adopters by releasing your game cheaper at first, then bumping it in price. The thing with the Appstore is there are no "must-have" apps, so us consumers can wait, and since we now know the trend of markdowns, we can wait until everything drops in price. Congratulations.

IGN just gave this game a pretty weak review. Maybe I'll give it a try for this price. But I just seem to get bored with iPhone games pretty quickly

The price keeps changing from $4.99 to $1.99 back and forth. I'm going to check back later in the day so I don't accidently get screwed.

Always enjoyed this type of game. Bushfire from Strange Flavour ( http://www.strangeflavour.com/pages/bushfire.html ) was my favorite and this game is similar. Bought at $4.99 and it was worth it. Building could be rendered better rather than being just a simple sharp block with imperfect texture position but other than that it deserves to sell well. I love the layered depth feeling of all levels.
