‘Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars’ for iPhone?

Gamedaily reports that Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey believes that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars could be coming to the iPhone.

“We expect GTA will likely be ported to Apple’s iPhone platform, leveraging the device’s touch screen technology and accelerometer. Apple’s determination to layer gaming applications into the device’s consumer value proposition and growing installed base is likely sufficient motivation for a deal,” he said in his most recent report.

There doesn’t appear to be any clear basis for this prediction though Rockstar is developing the title for the Nintendo DS and is expected for a late 2008/early 2009 release.

Grand Theft Auto is a popular game that has generated significant controversy due to its violent gameplay.

Thanks Seth

    Oh, this would be great!

  2. Dudehuge Says:

I’d pay 35 bucks for that!

  3. NJPodder Says:

Agreed, I don’t know about $35, but I would definately pay the standard $9.99 or maybe a bit more if this turned out to be in development.

If they release a full game and a toned down very (ahem, Star Wars) I’d be willing to pay whatever they charge on the DS. The normal $9.99 thing is great, but I totally support developers making full fledged games and not cell phone adaptations. We’ve all seen that the iphone is capable of much more than most big companies are willing to release.

In the meantime, the smaller companies, like Pangea, really seem to be taking things a bit more seriously. I expect big things from them in the future.

The fact that the the game will be developed for 2 screens makes me doubt highly if this is true.

damn last night i was thinking how sick it would be to have a GTA game on my iPhone. Even the original GTAs.

i hope this comes out. and costs only 9.99

  7. Chad Says:

I saw this listed on IGN under future releases about a week ago. Im looking forward to some bigger games such as this Call of Duty and Guitar Hero World Tour. Things are looking up for the gaming aspect of the Iphone.

    @NotYou

Actually all Pangea is doing is porting their library of mediocre old Mac games to iPhone. None of the games they have released so far were actually made for the iPhone. look at their games page, do you see a trend? http://www.pangeasoft.net/index2.html

Admittedly their funky old mac games are of higher quality than most iPhone games so they are basking in some popularity at the moment.

  14. dk206 Says:

I would definitely buy it! I need some sort of violent shooting carjacking game on my iPod Touch 2G… lol and I definitely need an FPS Shooter like Call of Duty, I would be so happy! Hopefully by Christmas all of our requests will be fulfilled.
