MotionX has dropped the price of their popular dice poker game from $4.99 to $0.99 [App Store].

Motion-X Poker was one of the early standout iPhone applications from the July 11th launch of the App Store. We reviewed the game and found it to be surprisingly addictive.

MotionX Poker is a dice poker game based on FullPower technology which is a motion recognition technology platform. For this iPhone game, it provides realistic dice rolling physics to provide an impressive package.

The game itself is easy to pick up and play at any time and easily worth $0.99.

Here's the video of the game in action from our original review:

For those who are just interested in the dice-rolling technology from Motion-X, they do offer a free dice application called Motion-X Dice [App Store].

sweet, I might just get it at that price. I'm not really a dice poker fan, so I didn't really want to buy the game at 4.99 if i wouldn't play it, but this is great.

    Thanks for the heads up

  • craig

man i just bought that last night for $4.99 - yay for me

  • chrisb

@craig: If you haven't been charged for it yet, it may turn up on your next iTunes receipt as $0.99.

this is a great game at $5, and a terrific bargain at just a buck. I still enjoy playing it - I've unlocked all the dice and tables, but still working on a couple of the gems!

it's a good game to kill a few minutes now and then - easy to pick up anytime and play for 3 minutes (or 30minutes). good replay value, IMO.

I hope we see more great games go on sale. Developers, are you listening? :)

  • Brett

I might get it at that price... Quick question though: is there an option to roll the dice WITHOUT shaking the phone?
As fun as that might be to begin with, after awhile I'd probably prefer something less "enthusiastic"...

  • http://iphone.rcptones.com brendan

    Sold!

But I agree with Brett, I don't want to be shaking around on the subways looking a fool. Also, I had better stop buying games right when they come out. Only takes a month before they're half price! Very common trend it seems.

  • http://www.chucksmith.de Chuck Smith

Brett, what do you mean it makes you look like a fool? Usually when I shake the dice to play, people look over and are like, "OMG, that's how you roll the dice in that game, soooo cool!" hah :)

The only trouble you might really have are from accidental rolls of the dice when the subway itself shakes... :-D

Ha, now my girlfriend just picked up my iPhone and started playing Motion-X Poker... thanks guys!

  • Finch

I bought this back at the appstore launch, completely worth the original $5 but for a buck! hell everyone should get it.

I hope they come out with some more stuff soon.

  • Brett

It was Brendan who said shaking the phone would make him look like a fool, not me...

...but I agree with him anyway! ;-)

  • Raphael Salgado

Probably the best game to get noticed on the train. At least that's what happens when I play it. Someone always leans over, "What game is that? Is that an iPhone?" and they're always impressed, especially when they're tinkering on a tiny, crappy BREW game on their Verizon phone.

For a dollar, it's a steal. I can only assume they've made at least a million bucks by now. :)

  • bc

    @Brett, @brendan

no, there's not an option to roll the dice without shaking the iPhone. But that would take all the fun out of it! :-) Seriously. With a bit of practice you can roll without overly exaggerated motion, if you want to be a bit more discreet. Tho' I have to admit I probably wouldn't try playing this during an important business meeting :-)

** if you're concerned about the shaking motion, go to the AppStore and download "Motion X Dice"

    - that's a FREE version by the same company which has exactly the same realistic look/feel/sound of the dice, but without the poker game aspect of it. also it only has 9 different sets of dice, instead of 39 in the poker version. And next time you're playing Risk or Liars Dice etc, you can use the app to replace your cup of dice.

So if you're still not sure about the poker at 99cents, download the free Dice version and go give it a test drive on the subway! I'd bet you won't feel foolish playing it :)

This is a great game, and the many different unlockable dice and various achievements add to the longevity. Don't worry about looking like an idiot when you shake it - in fact, very small movements will roll the dice just as effectively.

The only reason I have not bought this, is because I heard it diminishes battery life extremely... Is this true..? I still haven't upgraded to 2.1 yet, so I think that might help.

  • mac605

even at 5$ it's worth every penny, with all those unlockables etc :) and for 1$ it's like a giveaway. Regarding battery - yes, it can drain your battery, but in similar way like other intensive gfx apps, like pinball, poker, brain train etc

This was the first game I bought, and still one of my favorites. Yes, I would like a "roll dice" button.

  • http://campfirenyc.com Mike

This was one of the first games I bought and it's still one of the best games in the store.

And I play it on the subway all the time without issues.

  • Robert

    What an amazing game.
Sound and looks of this game are second to none.

  • http://www.appleotaku.com Apple Otaku

One of the first games I bought for my iPhone. It still gets some play. A great deal at 99 cents.

  • Dudehuge

    Amazing deal @ 99 cents

  • JGM

Is there a way to turn off the vibration and possibly save some battery?

  • arn

    vibration on/off is a setting.

  • vectr

Yep. Great game... what people said above.

However, I have two gripes (you might think I'm nit-picking, but seriously, when you're this close... why not make a perfect app?):

They changed the icon from a lovely rendered 3D Dice to a cheap looking one with the word "Poker" blazoned across it. I understand they want to differentiate their apps (Dice and Poker) but it clearly says under the icon "Poker". Use a symbol.

Also, while the artwork throughout the game is very polished the splash screen looks like a windows share-ware app. It just looks cheap.

  • Steve

love this game. Now that it is only 0.99 you would be dumb not to get it.

  • Jesse

I love Motion-X Poker. I can't wait to see what they do next. I bought it at $5 and I'm not sorry--it was so worth it. Not just the game, but the whole UI for menus and achievements was so elegant that I just loved it. For most people I think that kind of stuff is invisible, and that's the point: good UI should seem invisible. I always notice these little things, though, and they really impressed me over there at Motion-X. There are a couple easter eggs in the interface, too!

But I digressed from what I meant to say, which is that I really hope they're dropping the price because they already made so much money that they can afford to see if the lower price makes economic sense. I would hate to think a standout app like this wasn't making enough money!

  • Mo.

Wow, I bought it now 3 days ago and I am addicted :D I can't stop playing that stupid game ^^ I just love the different dices and the gem trophies. One thing that would make it even better would be the possibility to play with a friend on one iPone/iPod Touch. Nevertheless my favourite at the moment.
