For those of you still deciding on which solitaire game to buy in the App Store, Ambrosia Software has released a slimmed down version of their Mondo Solitaire ($9.99) game called Mondo Top 5 Solitaire [App Store] for $2.99.

The new "Top 5" version of Mondo offers users the five most popular variations of Solitaire in a cheaper package:

mondo Top 5 Solitaire takes the five most popular solitaire games from our massive "mondo Solitaire" game for the iPhone, and makes them available to you at a very affordable price! mondo Top 5 Solitaire uses the fantastic solitaire gaming engine in "mondo Solitaire" to bring you FreeCell, Golf, Klondike, Pyramid, and Spider.

The full version of Mondo Solitaire was one of the top solitaire picks in a recent roundup and contains over 100 different games.

The following video shows the full $9.99 version in action, but the "Top 5" version should play the same but with only 5 game choices:

Wow–they put more work into making that video than some people put into a whole game! :)

So true Nagromme, I still think their premium package is too expensive, but atleast they put some effort into their products.

"Sol Free" is a good mini solitaire collection (Baker's Game, Demon, Klondike Deal 1, Klondike Deal 3, Spiderette) and, unlike Ambrosia's, it's free.

I really like Monod Solitaire. It reminds me a lot of the Kickoo Solitaire app I used use on my Treo. Well worth the 10 dollars. They just released a recent update (at the same time as this limited version I believe) that remove my remaining niggles with the app. The redrawn cards and layouts are much easier to use.

  • Steve says:

Thanks for the misleading video. The cheaper version only offers flip-three Klondike. I bought the game since the video shows Klondike, and the option screen in the video offered choice of flip-3 or flip-1. There's 2.99 down the drain. They should offer an upgrade path.

  • There should be a free "Lite" version of Solitaire City available by the end of this week. The price of Solitaire City has also been reduced from $9.99 to $7.99 on a permanent basis.

    Cheers !

Steve, the variant of Klondike that is in Mondo Top 5 Solitaire is the exact same variant of Klondike that is in the full Mondo Solitaire. There are indeed options for different variants of Klondike in both.

Thanks folks, and enjoy! We've put a lot of effort into making Mondo Solitaire by far the best Solitaire game available on the iPhone. Mondo Top 5 Solitaire is meant to expand on the great platform we have, at a lower price for casual Solitaire players.

Steve/edisoncarter, to be more clear… The same options that are available in Mondo Solitaire are also available in Mondo Top 5 Solitaire — including the variants of Klondike that you're looking for.

Just tap on a game, and whether you're in CoverFlow view or List view, you'll see the options available to you for the game (scroll down to see more options).

  • Steve says:

Thanks, Andrew. What's confusing is that I was looking the Settings window, when you choose a new game. I see it now on the "change game" screen for a given game (e.g. Klondike). This makes sense, I guess, but it is a bit confusing to have more than one place to change game settings.

Whatever, I am quite happy now! Except for that, I was very impressed with the game.
