Keep in mind too that those more expensive DS games can all be resold if you either don't like them, or simply that you are done with them, and recoup some of your costs. In fact on numerous occasions, via some savvy shopping, I have purchased DS (and GBA) games, played them and then resold them for a profit. iPhone games are purchased, paid for and kept regardless of whether or not you still (or at all) want them. So the price comparison to DS and PSP games isn't terribly valid, or at least it's not as simple as noted. Universal demos would largely resolve this problem.

TO all those who think 10 bucks is too much for a game. How about you learn to program, create graphics and sound, design a game and the realize that design. Then you see how much work it is and you'd shut up about 10 bucks... Some games will make a fortune for the developer, others might be drowned in the mass of other games. The good selling games have to pay for the work of the less selling games as well. Same with the movies, really.
You know, these developers do have to pay rent like everybody else, and I strongly doubt they get their food for free or don't have to pay taxes...

If you are not an idiot, you wont buy that kind of game for Nintendo DS or PSP for full price. You have a choice of many great games on DS and PSP, that are much better than everything(!) available on App-Store so far. (Compare Mario Kart DS and Crash Kart iPhone for example.) Or take a look at what great and full-scope games you get for $10 at XBOX Live Arcade. Furthermore you can sell DS/PSP games or buy a used copy, while on App-Store you pay for your personal license only. Considering this, $10 is to much for all current App-Store games in my opinion. $1 - $5 should be the normal price for that simple kind of games that don't offer the graphics, sounds and scope of a good DS/PSP game. Some special games like Galcon (good graphics, great controls, Online-Multiplayer) may be worth $6-$8, but non is worth $10 or even more.

This game sounds great to me, but I'm not buying any more $9.99 apps without a free demo available. And this does seem like a game likely to see a price cut anyway, since the only thing we have to go on within the AppStore are the screenshots, and they don't look that great. The videos look good, but those aren't on the AppStore. End result: it's not going to sell well IMHO, until there's a quick price cut and free demo.

I found Blue Skies to be fun. It started off slow, but picked up eventually. The controls are real nice, it feels right. Some people may not like the graphic, but I do, it's clean and the game plays very smooth. Only thing I'd like to see is more variety in weapons, enemies, scenery, etc. I'm still enjoying the game a few hours in.

Most shooters are vertical scrolling. Asphalt and other racers have a linear path
to the finish line.

This is the only 2D shooter available with a large world you can fly around in. It fills a niche on the iphone and until there is competition the price will remain at top dollar for that niche spot.

Also it may not be launch day for you, but there are still new countries just getting the iPhone and new customers all the time.

i bought BiiBall for $4 and after 30 min. it came down to $2 and it's not that great game (no save and so on..) so I feel bad (dont really care about the money) but I'll sit and wait till it will go half the price like Funky Pounch (wich I'm glad that I bought the cheaper one because it bad..)
I really love the Iphone but it has so many bugs and the appstore is great but too many games (90% crappy) and the 16GB is not enough for music, games, photos and videos, I WANT 32GB like the ipod touch!!!!!!!!

I haven't played Asphalt or Blue Skies yet. But they doesn't seem to be that similar..

Rob: is it the 3d graphics in Asphalt that justifies that price?

I still think the 2d games on the appstore are so much nicer than the 3d ones.
