I agree that the price for this seems a bit steep compared to what others will be offering for just a dollar or two more. If you look at the kind of games that have been published so far for the iPod available on iTunes, seems with many of those you are getting much more of a completed game/experience, and at $4.99.

Hopefully Apple is prepared to quality control the games and apps on the AppStore just as they have for the iPod, and as Nintendo and Sony do their portable gaming platforms.

I don't think this budding platform will be served well by overpriced, over-valued software...whatever it is. At the same time, you don't want to squash the indie/homebrew spirit of the development community, but some of the stuff, including the little experiments by Glenda Adams, hardly stack up as buyable software to me.

I guess those things will shake themselves out when the store opens and people get a feeling for what prices are justified for what...I just hope you don't have to dig through lots of muck to find the stuff worthy of your $. But I have a feeling it will be pretty obvious when the doors open and you can buy Super Monkey Ball for $9.99...and Chopper for $7.99.

I appreciate the work that goes into these things, but it will be interesting to see what people are willing to pay for what.

$8 for a game that simple? Don't get me wrong, simple and fun games like chopper are addictive in the Mine-Sweeper mold, but what makes them a hit is that they are cheap or free as well as fun. This sounds like a lot for a very simple side scrolling app. Compared to the other games that are starting to show up on this blog, I can't see how the money is justifiable.

I be the first 6 months of the App store is going to have very mismatched pricing for software.

@nate: too many game articles @ an iPhone games site seems like a high-class problem. :-) Anyway, I love the Mac version of the game and was a huge Choplifter fan back in the mid '80s. (Retro Gamer recently did a great making-of story on Choplifter.)

The 3D Mac iPhone demo is more fun than the native Mac version.

Mr. Blakespot, you must love that Chopper game. There have been like five or six articles about it here on Touch Arcade. I mean, it's a fine game, but it's not exactly the most exciting thing I've ever seen.
