There's also an excellent version of Bomberman on the Wii Virtual Console for $6 (called Bomberman '93) that you can play with up to 5 people.

Bomberman is an OK game by itself, but really has value (ie, is fun) when there are people playing each other. Without multiplayer, it'll be a curiosity on the iPhone at best. Playing it by yourself is just not that great. Hopefully the super-hyped SDK will make it possible to do multiplayer, somehow.

Maybe with Bluetooth?

I can still pull out my TurboGrafx and play Bomberman with 5 human player at a time. That kind of fun is what gives the game longevity.

From what I can tell the iPhone can't do ad-hoc networking, it requires there to be a wifi network around for you to communicate with another iPhone. Networking through the cell connection should be possible too, although it probably wouldn't be fast.

I wonder if there will be multiplayer battles. Can the iPhone do ad hoc Wifi connections with another iPhone or would a game server in the cloud be required?
