I don't think interaction alone makes for an amazing platform, you also need the games and the price is a big factor. There is a further problem on the iPhone that can't match the DS: input resolution. Even your smallest finger is pretty fat compared to a DS stylus which can basically select a single pixel.

I just don't see 10 year olds getting a $300-400 phone to only play a non-existent iPhokemon game, with a $60 a month, for two years, contract. The DS is small, cheap and has a huge library of awesome games. The iPhone is a great phone and media player, and potentially great game device, but i don't see it stealing too much share from Nintendo's current market (which i am squarely in).

I agree whole-heartedly...

The only caveat you failed to mention?

A highly important one when it comes to gaming - Battery life... At present you'd get at most a good 2.5 hours of mobile gaming on an iPhone/iPod Touch - which is a lot less than a DS which will give you around 8 to 10 hours of gaming.

The key also to them more established hand-held game systems, is the ability to swap batteries in and out to enable you to carry on playing. And we all know have Apple just loooove to let us swap batteries in and out of the iPhone/iPod Touch don't we? lol :P
